Where You Are and What You're Doing

S + 在 + 地点/网上 + 动词

Use 在 to indicate a place or location, including 在网上 (online), followed by an action verb.

我在网上看书。

wǒzàiwǎngshàngkànshū。

I read books online.

他在学校打球。

tāzàixuéxiàodǎqiú。

He plays ball at school.

Time That Has Passed

时间词 + 了

Put a duration phrase + 了 (usually at the start of the clause) to stress the time that has elapsed.

半年了，我们没见面。

bànniánle，wǒmenméijiànmiàn。

It's been half a year and we haven't met.

半天了，他还在工作。

bàntiānle，tāháizàigōngzuò。

It's been half a day, and he's still working.

Two friends arrange to go play ball together.
