TOCFL — your ticket to studying and working in Taiwan
TOCFL (華語文能力測驗) is Taiwan's official Chinese proficiency test, run by the SC-TOP committee. Unlike mainland China's HSK, TOCFL uses traditional characters and is the certificate required for MOE scholarships, ICDF scholarships, university admission, or jobs in Taiwan.
The test is split into 3 bands: Band A (Levels 1-2) for beginners with about 500-1,000 words, Band B (Levels 3-4) intermediate with 2,500-5,000 words, and Band C (Levels 5-6) advanced with over 8,000 words — mapping to the CEFR scale from A1 to C2. The main exam has two sections, Listening and Reading, all multiple-choice.
