Structure for Wanting to Do Something

S + 想 + 动词 (+ 宾语)

想 is a modal verb, placed before the main verb to express the subject's desire. The verb that follows is not changed in any way.

我想认识他。

wǒxiǎngrènshitā。

I want to get to know him.

我想来这里工作。

wǒxiǎngláizhèligōngzuò。

I’d like to come and work here.

Structure for Introducing an Occupation

S + 是 + (一) 个 + 职业

Use 是 to state who the subject is and what occupation they have. You can add the quantity 一个 before the occupation for emphasis.

我是医生。

wǒshìyīshēng。

I am a doctor.

他是一个老师。

tāshìyígèlǎoshī。

He is a teacher.

小林

喂，明天晚上你有工作吗？

Hello, do you have work tomorrow evening?

小南
