The whole class follows their teacher to the park to pick up litter. At first some of the kids are squeamish about getting dirty, but when a frightened bird flies off because of a rattling can, they start to understand why this place needs to be kept clean.
Arriving at the Park
On Saturday morning, the teacher led her students into the park.
Xiao Li
Ugh, why is it so dirty here? There's trash all over the ground.
Teacher
It really is. Today we're not having class — everyone takes a bag, and we'll pick it all up clean.
Xiao Fang
With our hands? That's way too gross…
The Bird Flies Away
Xiao Li bent down, picked up an empty bottle, then picked up a few sheets of newspaper.
Just as he reached for a can, it clattered, and a little bird took fright and flew away.
Xiao Fang
Look, the bird got scared off. With it this filthy, they can't go on living here.
Xiao Fang
I don't mind the mess anymore — hand me a bag too!
Clean and Beautiful Again
A whole morning went by, and all three big bags were packed full.
Xiao Li
It's so much cleaner now! The grass is lush and green — it looks lovely.
Xiao Fang
That little bird from before — do you think it'll come back?
Before she'd even finished speaking, a little bird landed in a tree and chirped twice. Everyone laughed.
