Mingming has to finish a book before Friday but can't decide which one to pick. His friend Xiaofang drags him off to the library, and back in the far corner, it's his friend who finds him a slim little novel she once loved.
On the Way to the Library
Mingming
I'm doomed. The teacher wants us to finish a book before Friday, and I haven't even picked one yet.
Xiaofang
Don't stress about it. Come on, I'll take you to the library — they've got every kind of book there.
Mingming
But I read so slowly. A big thick book like that — there's no way I'd finish it in three days.
Xiaofang
Then just find a thin one that's fun to read. Even if you read slowly, you'll remember it clearly.
The Far Corner
The library was very quiet, so the two of them softened their footsteps and walked over to the row where the storybooks were kept.
Mingming
Excuse me, do you have a storybook that's right for us — nothing too thick?
Librarian
Of course. This whole row isn't too hard. Hold on, let me grab one for you.
Xiaofang
This one! I read it last year — the further you get, the more you want to know how it ends.
Mingming
Now that you put it that way, I actually do want to give it a read.
Checking It Out
Librarian
If you want to borrow it, just scan your card. Remember to return it in two weeks.
Mingming handed over his card and carefully slipped the book into his bag, as if afraid he might damage it.
Mingming
Thanks so much. If it weren't for you, I'd still be over there flipping through one book after another.
Xiaofang
Tell me whether you like it once you've finished. And don't stay up reading till midnight — we've got class tomorrow!
Mingming
Don't worry, I'll only read for a little while.
