The Wang family heads up the mountain for their summer holiday, but halfway up they get caught in a downpour. A tiny shelter and the sky after the rain turn the trip into a memory they'll never forget.
The Night Before the Trip
暑假第一天的晚上，王先生一家三口围着桌子收拾。
On the first evening of the summer holiday, the three members of the Wang family gathered around the table, packing their bags.
Xiao Luo
爸，这件厚衣服也要带吗？现在天这么热。
Dad, do we really need to bring this thick jacket too? It's so hot out right now.
Mr. Wang
带上吧，山里跟城市不一样，晚上凉，说不定还会下雨呢。
Bring it along. The mountains aren't like the city — it gets cold at night, and it might even rain.
Xiao Luo
我查过天气了，明天是大晴天，肯定能爬到看风景！
I already checked the weather — tomorrow's going to be bright and sunny. We'll definitely make it to the summit for the view!
妈妈把悄悄塞进背包最下面，谁也没说什么。
Mom quietly tucked the rain jackets into the very bottom of the backpack, and no one said a word.
Rain Halfway Up
第二天上午，他们爬到，天突然暗了下来。
The next morning, just as they reached the middle of the mountain, the sky suddenly turned dark.
豆大的雨点打在树叶上，山路一下子滑得没法走。
Raindrops as big as beans pelted the leaves, and the mountain path turned so slippery there was no way to walk.
Xiao Luo
怎么办呀，我们离还远着呢！
What do we do now? We're still so far from the top!
Mr. Wang
别急，前面好像有间看山的小屋，我们先去一。
Don't panic. There seems to be a ranger's hut up ahead — let's go take shelter there first.
三个人挤进小屋，妈妈从包里翻出，又倒了热水，大家笑着说有准备。
The three of them squeezed into the little hut. Mom dug the rain jackets out of the bag and poured some hot water, and they all laughed, saying it was a good thing they'd come prepared.
The Sky After the Rain
雨停的时候，太阳又出来了，对面山头挂起一道。
When the rain stopped, the sun came back out, and a rainbow arched over the peak across the way.
Xiao Luo
哇，比还好看！还好我们停下来了。
Wow, this is even prettier than the summit! Good thing we stopped.
她举起手机，把和爸爸妈妈一起拍了进去。
She raised her phone and caught the rainbow and her parents all together in a single shot.
Mr. Wang
你看，没爬到，可这一趟反而最让人，是吧？
See? We never made it to the top, yet this is the trip we'll remember most — don't you think?
