Explanation
啊 (à / a) here is an interjection (a word used to exclaim and express emotion), usually placed at the start of a sentence and separated from it by a comma or exclamation mark, used to express feelings: surprise, joy, sudden realization, agreement, or to attract attention.
啊 (à / a) + the rest of the sentence, for example 啊，你怎么在这里？(Oh, how come you're here?).
for an immediate reaction to something unexpected (啊，你怎么在这里 "oh, how come you're here"), for a sudden realization (啊，我明白了 = ah, I get it now), or for admiration and emotion (啊！太美了 = ah, how beautiful).
啊 at the start of a sentence is an interjection (expressing emotion, pronounced clearly). This differs from 啊 at the END of a sentence — in that case it is a mood particle (a function word added at the end of a sentence to express nuance) that softens the sentence, for example 好啊 (hǎo a = sounds good).
