⋯⋯,也就是说⋯⋯
⋯ ⋯ , yě jiù shì shuō ⋯ ⋯
The structure "也就是说" used to restate what was just said
Explanation
This is an explanatory compound sentence (a sentence in which the later clause clarifies the meaning of the earlier one) using '也就是说' to restate what was just said more clearly and understandably, equivalent to 'that is to say, in other words'.
(original statement/idea), 也就是说 (yějiùshìshuō) + a clearer restatement/an inference drawn. The latter part clarifies or infers the meaning of the former.
when one wants to paraphrase or draw a conclusion from what was just stated in easier-to-understand words; used in both speech and writing.
'也就是说' leans toward explanation/inferring a consequence; '换句话说' (huàn jù huà shuō = in other words) leans toward restating the same idea in different words. The nuances are close.
using '也就是说' to add a completely new idea (wrong—it must clarify/infer from the prior idea); and placing this phrase somewhere other than the head of the explanatory clause.
