索性
suǒ xìng
索性 (suǒxìng)
Explanation
索性 (suǒxìng) is a modal adverb (a word expressing the attitude or tone of the sentence), meaning 'might as well just... and be done with it', 'go ahead and... once and for all', expressing a decisive resolution to do something in one clean sweep.
(a clause stating a situation that has already gone a certain way) + subject + 索性 (suǒxìng) + verb (often together with 就 jiù or 直接 zhíjiē).
when things have already turned out a certain way, and the speaker sets aside hesitation and decides to do it thoroughly, often in a bold direction or simply giving in for convenience.
干脆 (gāncuì) is very close in meaning and can often replace 索性; but 索性 stresses 'since things have already come to this, just do it all the way', tied to a situation that leads to the decision, whereas 干脆 leans toward straightforwardness and decisiveness in general.
索性 (suǒxìng) needs a preceding premise of a situation 'that has already come to this' to sound natural; using it abruptly without context will feel forced.
Examples
My clothes were already soaked by the rain, so I just went ahead and closed my umbrella and strolled straight through the rain.
It's already quite late now, so I might as well just finish eating out and then go home—that works too.
