Wanting to Do Something

S + 想 + V + O

This pattern is used to express the subject's wish. 想 (want) comes before the verb, followed by an object if there is one. This is a very basic HSK 1 structure for talking about needs and wishes.

我想吃苹果。

xiǎngchīpíngguǒ

I want to eat an apple.

他想喝米饭。

He wants to drink rice (meaning he wants to eat rice).

Having / Not Having Something

S + 有/没有 + O

Use 有 to affirm the existence or possession of something or someone. Use 没有 to negate it. This structure is often used to ask about or describe a situation.

饭店有菜和水。

The restaurant has vegetables and water.

我没有钱。

méiyǒuqián

I do not have money.
