序数表示法

Expressing ordinal numbers

Explanation

In Chinese, ordinal numbers are usually formed by adding '第' before a cardinal number, as in '第一' (first), '第三' (third). For floors in a building, people use a cardinal number plus '楼' or '层', for example '二楼' (second floor), '三层' (third floor). When indicating an address such as a building number or room, the cardinal number goes with '号楼' or '房间', for instance '13号楼' (building No. 13), '205房间' (room 205). For buses, the route number is expressed with a number plus '路', as in '302路公交车' (the No. 302 bus).
