“把”字句3:表处置
“ bǎ ” zì jù 3 : biǎo chǔ zhì
"把" Sentence Type 3: Expressing Disposal/Discard
Explanation
This is the 把 (bǎ) sentence of the type expressing disposal (the 把 sentence = a sentence type using 把 to emphasize how the object is dealt with). 把 pulls the object (the target affected by the action, e.g. "belongings") in front of the verb to emphasize how the action acts upon it.
Subject + 把 + object + verb + [component indicating result/manner]. A quick, compact variant: 把 + object + 一 (yī) + verb, expressing a decisive action followed by doing something else (把门一关 = slam the door shut).
When you want to state clearly how the object is disposed of, moved, or discarded — so the verb must be accompanied by a component indicating the result (乱扔 = throw about, 往回收 = gather in, 忘了 = forgot, 签了 = signed). The 把...一 + verb type emphasizes a quick, compact, decisive motion.
把 (disposing of the object) is different from 用 (yòng = using something as a tool), as in 用身上的钱交了学费 which uses 用 because it emphasizes the tool/means, not disposing of the object.
After the verb in a 把 sentence there must almost always be an additional component (result, 了, 一...), and the verb must not be left bare (wrong: 把门关; correct: 把门关上/把门一关). Do not use a 把 sentence with verbs that do not act upon the object, such as 喜欢, 是, 有.
