Adversative compound sentences (转折复句)

Explanation

Adversative compound sentences are used to link two clauses with opposing or contradictory content. In Chinese, they can be used without a conjunction, as in the example '这件衣服样子不错,有点儿贵' (The style of this shirt is nice, but a bit expensive). Or you can use conjunctions such as '虽然……但是/可是……' (although...but...) or '……不过……' (...but...) to emphasize the turn in meaning, for example '那个公园虽然不大,但是非常漂亮' (Although that park isn't big, it's very beautiful).
