在⋯⋯方面
zài ⋯ ⋯ fāng miàn
In the field of / In terms of
Explanation
在⋯⋯方面 (zài...fāngmiàn) is a fixed frame used to limit the scope, field, or aspect under discussion, meaning 'in terms of..., in the field of...'.
在 (zài) + [noun / phrase indicating a field] + 方面 (fāngmiàn) + [rest of the sentence]. For example 在历史方面 = 'in terms of history'. This phrase usually serves as an adverbial (a component indicating time, place, or manner) placed at the head of the sentence or before the predicate (the part that states the action or quality of the subject).
When you want to narrow the content of a remark to a specific aspect (experience, history, technique...) before giving an evaluation.
Vietnamese learners often forget the 在 zài at the beginning or the 方面 fāngmiàn at the end, saying only half of it. What is inserted in the middle of 在...方面 must be a noun or a noun/verb phrase indicating a field, not a complete sentence stuffed in the middle.
