Types of subordinate (偏正) compound sentence groups in Chinese

Explanation

These are sentence groups (句群) with a subordinate (偏正) relation, that is, having a main part and a subordinate part. The subordinate part usually adds information such as condition, cause, purpose... to the main part. For example, 转折句群 (adversative sentence group) is used to express contrast or surprise, usually with connectives like '但是', '却' (but). 因果句群 (causal sentence group) explains cause and result, often using '原来' (it turns out), '因此' (therefore). When encountering these sentence groups, you need to identify the relationship among the sentences to understand the overall meaning correctly.
