⋯⋯,况且
⋯ ⋯ , kuàng qiě
况且 (kuàngqiě) - Moreover, besides
Explanation
况且 (kuàngqiě) is a conjunction (a word connecting clauses) in a progressive compound sentence (a sentence with two or more clauses, where the latter clause pushes the idea further than the former), meaning 'moreover', 'besides', used to add a new reason that makes the conclusion even firmer.
A (an existing situation), 况且 (kuàngqiě) + B (an additional reason, often with 又 yòu – also), (so/then) C (conclusion). Sample pattern: A is already so, 况且 there is B on top, so C.
when a situation is already enough to lead to the conclusion, and now an additional reason is added for greater certainty. Usable in both spoken and written language.
况且 (kuàngqiě) and 何况 (hékuàng) both mean 'moreover/let alone', but 何况 is usually used in a rhetorical-question form to make a stronger comparison ('...尚且..., 何况...') and has a heavier tone; 况且 simply adds a reason and is lighter.
况且 connects a clause that adds a reason, and is not used to connect two contrasting facts (that requires 但是/然而). The clause after 况且 often goes with 又; don't drop it and lose the progressive flow.
